About LauraHey friend! Thanks for being here. This is my story…
I was very shy and insecure well into my teen years, preferring the company of my horses to people (I once clung to a tree hanging off the side of a cliff to hide from a good-looking guy who was on his way over to talk to me…yeah, awkward). But I was lonely. I had few friends and I felt like a burden to the ones who tried to include me. If God is the potter and we are the clay, I felt like He'd lovingly crafted everyone else and saved the scrap bits for me. When Jesus Christ captivated my heart in 2008 and revealed my true worth and identity in Him, my life would never be the same! I soon found myself surrounded by more friends than I knew what to do with! I graduated high school the following year to pursue a career in the film industry. |
I’ve had the privilege of working as an actress on film sets right in my home province of Alberta, Canada, the coast of Vancouver, BC, the mountains of Colorado and even a palace in Croatia, Europe! Perhaps the most meaningful experience was when I was cast to play the lead role in the movie, “In His Steps,” based on my grandma’s favorite novel from her teen years (and the story where the phrase, “What Would Jesus Do,” originated).
I had my whole life perfectly mapped out! Or so I thought... but God had other plans. Only three months after I moved to Toronto with a plan to “take my career to the next level,” I found myself back in Alberta, living with my grandma as her full-time caregiver after she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Though devastating (and terrifying) at the time, I somehow I knew I was right where He wanted me. The following years with my grandma held some of the most cherished moments of my life, and were momentous in building my character to match my calling. |
The experience also expanded my horizons and clarified my purpose as a storyteller. I went on to win a $10,000 grant to write, produce and star in a short film inspired by the time I spent as her caregiver.
I've spent most of my life waiting for the harvest – waiting for that day when my dreams come true and I can finally live life on my own terms – but I can see now that the harvest was there all along!
I’ve discovered that we don’t need to wait for big events to glorify God and bless others. God works in the mundane, not just the magnificent. Meeting Him there each day – in the seemingly insignificant moments – is key to reaping a harvest of blessing everywhere we go. |
That’s why I’m so passionate about inspiring young people to discover their identity in Christ,
walk worthy of their calling, and trust God to write their story.
